hello everyone, i have some questions regarding ponds/lakes. (not sure where to put this sorry)
first am going to explain the situation and just wondering if anybody has some ideas.

okay my grandparents own a rural farm (kinda in the middle of now where) as well as two aunts (its a family farm) i just found out that there is a lake that we own about 4-7 acres of shore line, but what i did not know is that this lake is fresh water (always thought it was a dead alkaline lake) so i asked the fellow who also owns part of this lake and rents the land if he knows there are any fish in it. he says there could be, he always thought there was pike in it. (or believes there are pike in the lake) so here are a few details of this lake (there is no info for it online i did many searches for any info on it)

the lake is between 3-25 feet deep on avergae years.
for as long as my family has owned the lake (maybe 100 years) it never has been dry.
the local town used to collect water from it.
pelicans and swans always nest on it
there are many weed beds

thank you for reading any help would be awesome. :)
and/or thoughts if this lake could/might hold fish

Does it have an inflow and out flow all year round? Becuase some even fresh water if the inflow and outflow dry up in the summer can become to acidic for fish but not for swimming. With birds around the acidity can raise even faster in the summer which might make it unsafe for people too.

I guess the only way to check would be to try to fish it or net it and see if you can catch anything. But you might want to confirm the inflow and outflow before eating anything from the lake or have the water tested send of summer before the rains pick up as that's probably when is most likely to become hazardous if the inflow and outflow aren't self maintained all year

If there are not fish there presently, I sure would look into stocking. Go out there and toss a lure or two and also some baited hooks. Good luck.
hoping there are fish in it, if not stocking could be an option.

never thought of the inflow and outflow but this lake floods our land most years if that is a helpful. Plus people water ski on the lake or have

Birds are eating something. Go fishing! Pike are nice eating. Net shiners and feed them to the chickens!
pike are awesome eating, will have to go fishing there.

Old timers planted pike everywhere back in the day. Now, it is not legal most places.
unfortunately people still plant fish in places, many trout lakes where i go fishing have perch in them. and tons of them.

So that's good you know there's a really high inflow at least part of the year. And the water stays safe enough to swim in year round. Time to go fishing
ya this lake over flows almost every year. which creates a great big slough on are land.

Let us know what you catch!! :celebrate
will do :)
