So, a couple hours ago I took a Trio of my Sebrights to our county fair for the first time. I was going bring 3 silkie hens too, but they are brooding and they wouldn't be ready in time. So far so good. They are settling in well. Surprisingly, I saw some REALLY nice birds, and some not-so-nice birds. People were showing Sex-links

But I did see (what looked like) some nice Seramas and a few nice Silkies. There were also some really nice cochins. Hard to describe without pics but these look far better than hatchery birds. I even saw a trio (3 hens) of some bantam Columbian Wyandottes!

Makes me want some real SQ birds now... I did put locks on my cages though. They may not be SQ but heck, i'm not taking ANY chances! I have doubts about placing but ya never know....

ya the county fair is the place you see the greatest spectrum of quality b/c you have some that just have them for eggs and its just an xtra project for pple and then you have the people who do it for a serious hobby its a neat experience the county fair

Not at my county fair. If one quality bird was present I would be surprised. I don't even bother attending; would never consider showing there.

On the other hand, our State Fair is awesome! Some of the Az County Fairs are reputed to have quality birds.

Our county fair has no quality birds, really. Everyone takes in their hatchery birds from the feed store, or their barnyard mixes. The only year I took some of my own, a great big white rooster with red earlobes won Grand Champion. He was marked "White leghorn." Probably a white rock, in my "professional" opinion.
