It became apparent yesterday morning that my alpha rooster, Hector, was overthrown by his son, Benny. Hector has been with our flock since we started out with chicks, and he is a good protector. However, since being defeated by Benny, Hector is skittish and fearful. It’s sad for my kids to see. We all agreed we want Hector back in charge at the cost of re-homing Benny and a few hens. We have 9 hens and two roos right now. All Japanese bantams. If Benny is out of the picture, will Hector rise back to the top? Honestly Hector seems stressed. His tail feathers are disheveled and he’s hiding from Benny. Benny on the other hand looks healthy and strong but is just being a cocky little jerk to everyone. Already made arrangements to rehome Benny, but wondering if it’s the best for the remaining flock to stay with Hector.
