Coup in the Coop

I think our white silkie roosters, Zeus and Titan, staged a coup and ganged up on our black silkie rooster, Cesar. Cesar has always been the cock of the walk, the ruler of the roost, the terrorizer of everyone else in the coop. He's a like a little general (we should have named him Napoleon!) He keeps the rest in line, makes them go to the hen house at night, and keeps them in there if the weather is bad. He's the one in charge.

But yesterday, when I checked on the chickens, Zeus and Titan had Cesar behind the chicken pen, beating the poop out of him. I guess they just got tired following orders. This morning, he's hiding behind one of the pens and won't come out. He needed to be taken down a peg, but I miss the little general. I hope he gets his nerve back soon!

Cesar, Zeus, and Titan before the coup.

They look so innocent, don't they? Who knew they were planning a takeover?!

Keep an eye on Cesar. The new leaders may keep him from eating and drinking. It's very unlikely that he will regain his position in the flock.

My de-throned rooster never regained his former glory. He had a few older hens who would still hang out with him, but he acted depressed in general, rarely mated and didn't call hens for treats very often. I finally culled him.
