Couple of Feeding Questions/Opinions

Hey!

1. We are running out of Flock Raiser. Scraping the bag and money is tight. So Im just gonna feed them scratch mix I have plenty of that layed in. Plus they free range. Whadya thinkin?

2. Im gonna beef my chicks that are coming in ten days. 24 % protein ration with ground corn and ground alfalfa pellets as optional sort of thing. Will they be big and stocky hens??

What do I think?

Your scratch will lower the total protien your birds are getting, which may cause a reduction in the number of eggs (for example 5 eggs a week to 3 - just an example) When money became tight for us - I stopped purchasing scratch and only feed flock raiser and free ranged (plus household scraps and mealworms from the mealworm farm)

For your beefed chickens - I do not know. I am not a fan of corn - it is cheap without a lot of anything that a chicken needs. It is candy compared to a complete meal. I would try a 30% protien feed and free ranging to muscle them up.
