Hello! Had a couple of questions as I'm cracking down on biosecurity with my flock. The coop and run are fully enclosed and we only have 4 girls, but I love the heck out of them and want to do my part in protecting them and other birds. Was hoping to get input on a couple of things I'm mulling over now.
- Anyone have ideas for how to prevent or deflect run-off and splashing on a corrugated roof? Don't know if a gutter could work...I did all the roofing myself, and unfortunately didn't leave much of an overhang. With heavy rain, I pull up plastic tarp on the sides and tie back when the sun comes out, but inevitably there's tiny bits of splashing that gets in. Makes me nervous as we have a number of waterfowl flying over our home each morning and night.
- Where to keep coop shoes? I was thinking I'd keep them in a plastic bin inside, in the past I just have specific coop shoes that I wear in the short distance from door of the house to the coop, but know that's not actually protective. How does everyone handle shoe swaps?
- Should I be concerned about clothing with just normal wear around house and yard? We're in the pacific northwest and have dogs romping around in the yard. Never unsupervised so we'd know if they actually came in contact with a deceased bird, but obviously could track dirt with disease around. Just curious if I should be careful about my clothing in this case and what other people do here.
