Well I did it, I already have 4 silkies and love them, and spent a ton on their coop and run, nobody really knows how much I spent but I know I cannot go to Home Depot any more. LOL. Welllllllll I was at TSC and ended up coming home with 6 barred rock and 6 golden comets. Recently at work we got some new tables and they were shipped in pine crates, which i acquired, so I made them a brooder, no money, all from what I had on hand.

So now I need another coop and run for these 12 new babies. I was thinking of a hoop house 4 cattle panels long, and then have a coop attached to the outside end.

I found 19 gauge hardware cloth 60" x 100' online for $226 shipped, will the 19 gauge work?

Also with 12 bigger chickens how big does the coop need to be? I will have the run at almost 17 foot long which should be enough room for them to roam but what about sleeping. I do live in the snowbelt in northeast ohio and need to keep them warm. My silkies did fine with no heat or insulation, my biggest concern is size that is needed to make them comfortable. I plan to cover the hoop with some plastic roofing but for now a tarp will have to do.

Also will 4 nest boxes be enough?

Sorry for all of the questions, I need to do this as cheap as possible b/c I need to run all purchases past the wife! I have put out calls for pallets and scrap lumber and am on my way to a guys house now to see what he has.

Thanks for your input
Ed
