So the "Mr. Turtle Brooder" in the basement has been a fine home for our chicks so far.
However, the last couple of days, they have taken to flying out of my hand and down into thebrooder when they have had enough fun for one visit. I fear that eventually, and not too far distant, they will start flying up out of the brooder, and around the house. Is this a realistic concern? How much of a run do the chicks need to get airborne?
Yesterday we gave them noodles fo rthe first time, and in the royal rumble that was triggered, we had birds flying up onto the perches in a single hop (about halfway up the chicken wire) and getting some serious speed up around the pool. The chicks are now 17 days old, and have most of their wing feathers and some tail feathers.
It would be easy to put the Mr. Turtle Pool lid over the brooder, but it would create problems with the wires that the light and feeder are hanging from right now.
