My run will be 12x12 i was going to cover it in poultry netting to protect from hawks but now im thinking about shade and weather protection. What is a cost affordable way to do this? i was going to put some posts in the middle of the run and "tent" the roof

Where do you live? A roofed run is a thing of beauty but is quite an investment.
There are ways to get excellent results, but it depends on whether you have snow load, and what predators might target your birds.
Any pics?

I live in southern idaho. so not too much snow, couple inches maybe a couple times a year, otherwise just skifs. Can be windy, not too much rain either. Will need a shade area. We have coyotes, skunks, neighbor dogs, hawks, falcons, eagles, probably racoons though ive never seen them.

Here's how I am doing mine for the summer.

It is 12' x 24', and completely covered in hardware cloth.
Then I covered the rear half with a simple tarp, held down with zipties.

These pics are taken during construction, (Which is still underway), and was taken prior to the coop being built inside the pen.

Eventually, (before next winter),I will use the corrugated roof panels, but for now the tarp will do the job, and help save on cost's.

Here's a shot of the 4' x 8' coop going in.
I have almost decided to go ahead and expand it to 4' x 12', as I am finding the 4' x 8' size to be getting kind of tight very quickly.
(and I haven't even got any birds in there yet).

hope this helps,
