Hi everyone, DH is working on the run for my chicks, and I was wondering what do you all use to cover it, some kind of mesh or ??

Thanks!

I put a tin roof on mine. It would depend on what kind of predators that you have to deal with. It would also depend on how big the run is. Good Luck

our run is heavily shaded by half a dozen walnut trees, so we only put up chicken wire on half the ceiling space thinking nothing could possibly get in. I regret that decision. 3 of my hens flew out of the run and my dog made short work of them.
we finished the roof with chicken wire, (my husband is a mason and it's readily available.) I also hear of people using shade cloth or hardware cloth. Look at the coop section on this site... I bet you could get more ideas there.

We put a tin roof on 3/4 of ours and mesh on the rest.

I have made a portable customizable run with panels made from PVC pipe with plastic netting on it. I can hook together as many panels as I like and make it any shape I like. It fastens to our various arks and tractor so we can alternate who gets to "run around" for awhile. It is roughly 4 feet tall with no covering. We have clipped the chickens wings and haven't had any of them get out. We do not let them out in this over night or when we aren't around. The birds sure do enjoy getting out and stretching their legs.

tractor supply has a plastic garden net for $20. I watched my 2 year old colt run straight into it,and bounce off. That was when I decided it would make a great run topper. No problems yet,but I also have 2 strands of electric, and I lock them in at nite. Just trying to keep them safe, but it looks like a prison for chickens.
