coyote (good ones)

A friend and I was headed to the pistol range early this morning. As we were walking to the truck, we heard one of my roosters going crazy behind the barn. As we rounded the corner of the barn, we walked up to a pack of coyotes. 5 good ones (dead) and not sure how many got away. 3 of the 5 were nursing pups, in a few days there should be more good ones. I can't figure it out, I haven't had a coyote attack in about 18 to 20 years, Now all of a sudden there is a pack running the area. I haven't heard any coyotes at night in a long time. Hope this is not of things to come this summer. We are warning the neighbors to keep their dogs and cats in for a few days, as we are setting traps.

Congrats on the "good ones" A little sad about the babies, but its better now than after they pulled what their moms did! Be aware, some people will probably have 3 strokes and a heart attack over you killing them...lol...I saw a really heated conversation about something similar.

I dont encourage killing "for the heck of it" but we have, and will again, kill a predator thats after out flock. Ive went to all precautions I can to protect them, but if all that fails, the .270 wont!! Coyotes and foxes have all but wiped out all the quail and rabbits around here. Theres a fox seen in my yard every morning by my uncle on his way to work, luckily I havent seen it, and it hasnt figured out a way into my pen. It would never get past the 5 dobermans anyway. I am going to try and hatch a bunch of bob whites to turn loose here and try to get the population back up. We also put whatever we kill to some use, a neighbor eats the coons, a friend in town eats possums...YUCK!!! and we give all the hides to a friend of ours who tans them and sells them for extra money.
