Are they impossible to catch/trap/shoot?

That's what ate my dear Maple and went after my Luna. I've seen it 3 days in a row. It's huge!

My husband is after it now, but I hate to say my girls will be locked up until the coyote is gone!!!!

I know they are usually solitaire. Buying a live trap that big is a bit spendy. Maybe we can make one that's not a snare. There are too many dogs/cats that can get hurt.

What are our chances of getting this awful predator?

In this case (I dont know what your acreage is like, but if you have coyotes you probably are rural, although I did see one in golden gate park last year ) I would suggest a Guardian animal-- my friend got 2 free llamas off Craigslist (they eat very, very little and are great deterrents), or... even a LGD (although I am having dog issues . i do hear the right dog can be a great guardian)....

With coyotes I have learned that you have one oppurtunity to kill them. if you fail to do so they usually learn from their mistake and become almost like a ghost and very wary, and that makes him extremely hard to kill. But if you scare him it doesn't mean he won't come back, he found an easy food source so he will, sadly, try coming back for more.

I don't think he's easily scared. Out in the middle of the day where people and dogs are. Yikes! And I though hawks were my worst nightmare.

My husband is hoping to. My daughter wants the Hyde/fur as her own toy. I have a couple fox pelts for her too.

I thought I was dealing with a fox, not a darn coyote. This makes it much worse. We've seen it midday 3 days in a row now.:(

i have a pack of coyotes around my house and i also have 12 chickens right now and planning on about 10 more. i have a 3 year old boxer that is on a 75 foot run and his lead is about 25 feet so all in all he covers a good area of my yard the two coops i have are just out of his reach but close enough if something trys to get to them he will know and i still hear them howling at night but they are not comming around our house and our neighbor has his rooster on a wire run too with a 55 gallon drum for him to get out the weather so i figure if one is going to get attacked it will be his first sence his is out of a coop..good luck they are sneaky animals, but i would get a dog great for protecting the flock

I have 2 guard dogs, but I can not leave them out unattended. They guard everything including people.:(

It's such a huge liability, so we are building a 4 acre fence and the dogs will be able to protect the flock then. The fence project starts next spring.:)

We added a few roosts to the run and the girls are much happier in there. I'm sprouting wheat/oats/alfalfa for their greens. I'm letting them out in the evening when I'm there with my dogs watching. I'm afraid of the coyote too.

Verify animal in question actually a coyote. You are in Minnesota and say it is huge. Big coyotes and Minnessota might actually be indication of grey wolf in Minnesota. Coyotes for me me are not huge, two maybe three times size of fox. If it is targeting stock, management options same for either species.

1000% sure it's a coyote. I saw it at 1:30pm at my run that is up against my house yesterday. :(

I hope there is only one. I don't want to lose another hen. These girls are my pets like a dog or a cat.

I did see a wolf in my backyard about 5 years ago, it was as tall as a Golden Retriever and scrawny looking.

This coyote is full looking, has a fluffy tail, tan in color with the upright big ears as tall as my Australian shepherd.

I pray to God, there is only 1 and not a pack or pair. It would never fit in the fox trap, so we are taking that back to the store.
