I just received eggs in the mail for my broody hen, and one of them got cracked in shipping. It is only hairline cracks but it did leak some fluid and is right and air pocket. Should I wax it? Is there a chance the chick could survive? Thanks!

Well I guess its worth a try and u could always candle later and toss it if nothing is happening with it. Its easy. U just drip candle wax on the crack and let the cool air harden and seal it for u. Also u can use fingernail polish to cover and seal the crack. Dont seal the entire egg which ever method u use as they have pores and need to breathe just the crack.

Thanks for your reply. I also heard that you can use non toxic Elmer's glue. I have only put a thin layer of glue over the crack. We're now at day 1.

I'll keep you updated when I candle.

Well hopefully the egg will do somthing. I just got 2 clutches of eggs in the mail over the past week but was lucky as all arrived good and didnt have to repair any. What kind did u get? I usally never give a rats hiney about the mail (always bill and junk) except when Im expecting eggs and then I think of my mailman as Santa LOL

I got blue mottled/black mottled/ mille fleur/ and golden neck D'uccles.
