Hi!

I posted at the geese forum as well because I have two goose eggs in my incubator. Today is day 20 and I have had two eggs with cracks in them. One egg has a good little hole and he was still working on that about ten minutes ago and peeping like crazy! He is precious!

This morning though, one of my eggs had a long, clean crack in it. I thought I heard peeping coming from it, but it may have been the other egg. Anyway, right underneath it in the water is what looks like brownish/yellowish fluid. It's very light. Is something wrong with my egg? I should also mention that it hasn't really made much progress since this morning, but I could see the crack opening and closing a little around 4 o'clock. The crack is very small and I can't see inside it.

Any help would be appreciated!!

One more question - how long can the babies stay in the incubator once they dry? I'm worried these will be dried and need to come out before the others hatch!

Not sure about the brown liquid...maybe someone more experienced can help you there. But I know that chicks can live in the incubator for 3 days as they r still absorbing nutrients from the yolk! Help this helps. And good luck!

I was told by an old chicken farmer that when they crack them like that they work at it for a while and eventually will just crack it in half and not zip, but I dont know I havent had one do it yet. It typically takes up to 24 hours for the chick to hatch completly. Especially on the early hatchers or at least mine have. The yolk provides all nutrients they need for the first 3 days.

Great news!! Both chicks hatched and are doing fine! They're are still wet and in the incubator! I have one black one and one yellow one. When I got there, both of them were laying down and resting. I started talking to them, and the black one sat up but the yellow one jumped up and was all over the incubator flapping its wings! He is really active.

They have made the biggest mess in the incubator! I had all of the eggs evenly spaced and these two chicks have rolled them all over the place! Is that okay? Do I need to worry about that? Should I move them back when I take the chicks out or leave them? I will post pictures as soon as they are dry and I can take them out of the incubator. The wait is killing me!
