Our EE Charleene, who is about 18mos old. Has recently started laying weird eggs. She is not laying on a regular basis, she went from 5-6/wk to 2-3/wk. We feed layer pellets, grit, scratch and they free range quite a bit.
Here is what her eggs have been looking like:

My one chicken had a couple of eggs that looked cracked and then "healed over." It was her first couple of eggs. It went away. I hope your's does, too.

Does anyone know the cause of this? It has me concerned the egg will crack inside and NOT come out. For the last 2 weeks, she has been laying these. Do some chickens still lay while molting? I noticed last week that 2 of our bantam mixes are molting. Maybe she is molting?

Yes during a soft or slow molt they can continue to lay although at a slower rate. I don't have any good idea why your hen is continuing to lays eggs that were cracked internally. Usually its a one time thing when they get bumped while the shell is forming. If she is in molt it could be a glitch in the production that will work out when she goes back to full production.
