I witnessed my buttercup hen lay her egg this evening (at like 5:00...wierdo LOL), and I shooed her away and picked it up immediatley after I caught a glimpse of it.......but it's cracked on the end

barely cracked, but it's still there.

How long is it good for, if at all? Could it be breakfast in the morning? Normally I'd feed it to the dogs because I wouldn't know how old it was for sure, but this one I am 100% positive it's fresh

Also I don't refrigerate my eggs and wait till right before cracking to wash them, *if* this one is okay should I put it in the fridge?

when that happens to mine, just the shell cracks and the membrane is still intact. I eat it the next day.

yes eat it! Hazel cracked her egg on sunday (silly girl) and we ate it the next day. Only the shell was cracked, not the membrane. I just made sure that was the next one to be eaten.

oh, and we didn't fridge it. They're so fresh they don't really need it.
I admit I do still need to make room for consistently fresh eggs in the fridge though.
