I'm just looking for opinions here. I've never sold anything via craigslist, but I listed a couple items on our local craigslist a couple days ago.
Yesterday, I got an email from someone asking only "Is it for sale". This particular item is listed in the books section with a price marked in the title of the listing. I responded "yes, I've listed the item for $XXXX."
This morning, I had 2 emails regarding one of my listings and another regarding the above mentioned listing. Each of these 3 emails said something along the lines of "hello. I'm wondering if you need any help". One said specifically, "with your bills". I deleted all 3 of these.
This evening I found this from the original emailer:
Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instantpurchase i will be posting a certified check or money order to coverthe cost of the item while you hold on my behalf. Once you havethis,my mover will come pickup at you place.I will be needing thefollowing information to issue out the payment . . . 1.Name to be on the check 2.Home address 3.Telephone 4.Your state, city and zip code ** Pls note that the payment for the item will be send to your addressasap. I have taken a close look at the advert and am completelysatisfied i really need this and will appreciates that you help savethis for me till the payment arrives as it will save me some extracost
I emailed him back asking if he is local, who this 'mover' would be and that I would likely meet whoever picks the item up in town rather than have them come to my home. (Mostly because I'm a fraidy cat when it comes to stuff like that.)
At any rate, what I'm wondering is if anybody here feels this is something pretty normal, or should I follow my gut when it's telling me this is a bit fishy?
