Watch out, I posted a couple of items a few weeks ago and had a couple of legitimate replys but also had quite a few folks attempting to scam me. you should check out their link on protecting your self from scams it has good info.

Hi, I've wondered about the site myself. Is it a buy sell thing or a free and trade thing? And what kind of scams can happen?

You can buy, sell, swap or trade with other in your area.
I was getting the good old fashioned Nigerian scam. They tell you they want your item then at the last minute tell you someone owes them money so they will have this 3rd party pay you with a money order or check of some kind for more then your asking price. this extra amount is to cover the shipping cost then any left over you will repay them later. of course the check turns out to be fake and the bank holds you responsible.

actually you could be arrested for attempting to cash the money order if it is a "USPS" money order. We sold something on there and the guy kept putting off sending the money. We knew it was a scam from the start but the guy kept insisting. Finally the money orders came and yup he sent two money orders each was $850. He only was supposed to send $300. Well he was banking that i would just deposit it and write him a check for the difference in which he would make a bundle before I would find out that the money orders were a fake. I went directly to the Post Office and they called the police. I filled out my statement and the police did nothing about it. I was told by the officer that if I had attempted to cash the money order I woul dhave been leaving the post office in cuffs!
All that to say Craigslist is good if you do cash and local pick up only. We have had several successful transactions that way. We meet at a public place and usually my husband does it.

BTW, I posted in another thread but I grew up close to where you are. I lived in Tuckerton for many years. It sure has changed alot since I moved away.

I use it all the time. Only for local pick up and delivery though. I always talk to the person on the phone first, and meet away from the house. For safety reasons because you never know who is on the other side.

Never used C.L for the reasons above, but i have used freecycle a few times with no probs.

My dh has banned me from craigslist. First time on I brought home a house broke 4month old potbelly pig. 2nd time on I brought home a 1 1/2 year old basset/beagle mix. What he doesn't know won't hurt him right? Last nite I inquired about a goat! Hope to hear a reply soooooon!!!!!!!!
