I've been reading this morning about crawfish being abundant in our local waters, so I want to try fishing for them. I'm allowed 25 per day! I don't want to eat them myself, and don't really want to even cook them for the family, so they would be only for my chickens. So I want to know what is the best way to process them for my birds and which ones to feed them to. Alive and whole? Remove claws? Dead and boiled? Meat only?

I have 11 full grown laying hens, 11 - 11wk olds, 24 - 6 wk olds and some 10 day olds.

Cook them, without salt, and feed them to the flock. I might crack their claws, if they are big enough, and I would also crack their shells.

But they will be very good for them!

Having lived in South Louisiana for many years, I would not give to the chickens the crawfish that I denied to myself. They are just too good to eat. lol
