So our new batch of hatched 11 RIR ,2 crossbreed ameracaunas, and we bought 6 Buffs. And one of our chicks Queen Latifa was born with a strange wing with missing feathers. She's been fine for the first few days, but today she had some caked-up poo in her bottom. So we cleaned it out, seperated her form the chicks till her fur dried, and ever since shes been peeping at the top of her lungs. She stops when I come in and pet her or lean over the box. But, im afraid shes the runt, so why do you think shes wailing?

Hello, a lonesome chick is a noisy chick!! Try a mirror and a little stuffed animal for it to snuggle with. Make sure its warm enough too. I had a lonley chick hatch and it wanted all of my attention. Maybe put just one other chick with it? Good Luck!

Thanks, he/she was actually still peeping even when we put him/her back with the rest of them. But, he/she's stopped peeping now, so it's all good.

Good to Hear!! I had one lonesome chick hatch and wow was it noisy. I had to cover the cage, give it a stuffed animal, mirror etc. Hubby was going to kill me at 2:00 am. I had a duckling hatch the next day and saved us. The duck and the chick are 6 months old now and are still the best of friends. Everyone needs a friend right?

Lonely poultry are a handful!!

I have had singles hatch of geese, quail, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and pheasants.

Right now I am working on the gosling...lonely single gosling...thinks I am mommy and to make it shut up I had to make a gosling-sized pocket for it to sleep in. It had a feather duster, which seemed to work very well for everything else to shut em up at night...but daytime is very different. And the gosling didn't buy it. I am definately "mommy" to it.

At least its cute and comes when called!

I wonder if emu/ostrich and peafowl are the same?
