I have a 19 week old EE whose comb is bright red and she is doing the laying noise. She either stays in the coop on the roost or uses the roost in the pen, but she will not stay on the ground. If I open the door to the nesting box she will get in the box and acts as if she wants me to let her come with me. What is this all about? She was being picked on by roosters who I rehomed last week, but her weird behavior is continuing. It is as if she does not want to be around the other chickens or on the ground. She has always been the first to come out of the coop every morning, now she just stays on the roost. I took her out yesterday about an hour before dusk and she happily walked around the yard eating grass and chasing bugs. HELP, I can't figure this one out. Is it hormonal or what. She is quickly becoming an introvert. Any ideas?

Since you rehimed the roosters maybe they are trying to sort out the pecking order and she is low hen and is trying to avoid the others? Just a suggestion.

any other suggestions. She is outside now on a tree stump and everyone else is on the roost in the pen. what gives? Should I be worried.

one of my hens did the same thing. she was picked on by some of the roosters in the pen and even two of the hens. they would chase her around and peck her. so we took her and two of the roosters out and put them in a seperate pen for a few days then we put the other chickens in there with them and they all got along then. but she wouldnt ever stay on the ground until then either.
