Can anyone tell me why this one sapphire gem “pullet” (what it was sold to me as and I have no clue if that is accurate) has feathers growing in completely different from the others I got the same day. The majority of the others are already almost fully feathered. Pic of another one for reference.

Back in the day I was told this is “failure to thrive” but then I experienced a REAL failure to thrive and the poor thing died.

What happened with mine was that she was a “runt” so to speak. She was late to feather and half the size of her sisters. She survived just fine, but was always on the smaller (and not smarter) side of things.

She also did not feather out properly. She was a crested polish and instead of having a big poofy head like Big Bird, she had 2/3 a poofy head, where everything went to her left side. Her crest was asymmetrical. Even after adult molting it never grew in properly.

I do believe she is a “runt”. I think She’s the one I always had to clean her butt up atleast once or twice a week but has since improved.
