AmberlinkWhat breed is she? Some of my best layers have been real nutty. And they do settle with age.
Ive tried giving her treats by hand multiple times but she never eats out of my hand she was hatched with 1 other sister and 3 brothers but her and another rooster never trusted me but her sister just starter layin eggs and she is way more calm comes to me and i dont struggle with herGreetings Juan de,
You try to catch her and she runs away. This is normal behavior for a chicken, of any age. Some chickens will be friendly and allow you to pick them up. I have chicks that walk up, and allow me to pick them up, others just run. Some of my hens come to me, when I call them by name. Then, I can pick them up. Some like to jump up onto my lap, when I am sitting outside. A lot of the chicken's behavior depends on how much time you spend with them, you not making loud or abrupt movements, treats of course, and the tone of your voice.
She will calm down somewhat, as she matures. Mostly, she will become accustomed to your presence. She probably, will never like being picked up, or approached. But, you can try building trust with her by offering her some meal worms in your hand. Let her eat. Don't pick her up. Hopefully she'll be in less of a panic when you're in the pen.
Eventually, you'll have to pick her up to care for her. So, in those instances, you should plan on treating her in the evening before she goes sleep. You can take her off the perch and wrap her in a towel. I don't like to treat my hens in the morning, as this is the time many hens will lay an egg. It's not good to stress the hen prior to laying.
These are my thoughts on your pullets behavior. I hope I have been helpful.
