I have a hen who lays eggs with holes. At first I thought they were picking at the eggs but day after day I had one egg the same size and color with the small little hole and the skin inside intact. Only one egg each day ever had this so I'm pretty sure it was one hens funny laying.

My Buttons lay so many colors of eggs they each are such enjoyment! Small and huge. Blue and brown.

I don't get a lot of Blues or greens but when I do I am just tickled!!!!

Love my birdies!

that is so weird about the holey eggs! LOL!

As for the egg colors in buttons it's been prooven that the green eggs are eggs layed by hens that are "stressed' or hens that for some reason are forced to lay earlier than they normally would. The brown button eggs are eggs that stayed in the vent area the proper amount of time

With coturnix, when they lay eggs early they normally come in white, teal, or blue with no spots

The green/blue ones were supper soft (You can see how the middle green one is caving in on it's self) I recently took in two flocks to help find them new homes. On top of it all we had over 100 degree for 9 days straight (that's a new record here) so these poor guys were VERY stressed I'd guess.

Wow very cool to have the quails lay blue or green eggs, its amazing.
I wonder if there are other quails that sometimes slip out a blue, green, or odd color egg, would you think bobwhites have this ability or are they always pure white eggs?

Put Vitamin C In Their Water--- It Helps With Heat Stress--- Look On Here A While Back Niki( Monarch) Posted Some Links To Research Articles That Support Vit C And Vit E Supplimenting For Heat Stress--- Since We Live In A Tropical Hedes I Tried It And It Really Makes A Heck Of An Improvement In Our Egg Production--- Give It A Whirl! I Just Drop 4 Or 5 500mg Vit C Tabs In A Jar Of Water-- Let Em Disolve And Then Add The Solution To My Auto-waterer About Every Other Day...

i would think it highly unlikely since they only lay white eggs, they may not even have a "paint can"

If they do then i'd think it may be possible

I see so bobwhites lack that certain ability or pigment to lay colored eggs, and they just lay white ones.

I know this is a dead post but I am having the same problem. Little holes in the eggs. What causes this? Will it hurt to incubate them? These are from my breeding stock. Thank you for the quick responses.

I wouldn't incubate anything but perfect eggs. If you do decide to try it, you might drip some melted beeswax to seal the holes. I'd also candle at 7 days to remove any infertile ones before they leak or explode (where normally I wait until lockdown at 14 days).
