Just a quick question from all you lovely experts... I have some beautiful cream crested legbars which I brought a few months ago and they had bright yellow legs but now they lost all that yellow colour and are like pink and faintly light yellow colour.
Is there a way I can brighten their feet colour.. it looks more prettier.

I am not sure. I did see someone say that the yellow in the legs is calcium storage and the hens use it up once they start laying so their legs become pale. I am not sure if that is true though.

The yellow pigments that are used to color the legs and beak are depleted from prolific laying. The pigments go into the egg yolk. How long have your Legbars been laying? There are actually guilds that are used by poultry men that show how many weeks a hen has been laying based on what areas of the hen have lost their yellow coloring. When the hens start to molt they will replenish nutrients and the bright leg color will return (there are also charts to show how long it has been since the hen stopped laying base don what areas have regained color. You could try feeding them dried crushed marigolds. That is supposed to darken the color of the egg yolk. I am not certain but it may help retain color in the legs too.

Thank for replying. They have been laying for just over a month now.
They get plenty of veg, mix corn and layers pellets..I have read somewhere that food high in beta carotene helps to yellow the feet and beak.
