Creating your own strain

Anyone experimented with creating there own strain/breed of chickens?

I don't have any experience with it but. Are you wanting them to breed true or just make a mixed chicken

sadly i cant have a cockerel due to the close proximity of my neighbours but i would love to mix different breeds and see what developed

Not a new breed(though rare), I have a black Penedesenca hen that lays a plum egg so I'm hoping to perpetuate a line of plum layers.

That will be close to impossible. And to get a chicken to breed true for one it takes years just to breed a color true so in a whole new breed will take longer. From what I understand it takes five different people breeding 5 chickens for 5 years to create a APA breed. I'm sorry that is for breeding a new color. So a new breed will probably be harder. It takes FOREVER!
