I’m guessing we’ll have to heat the bantams coop here in Utah, so either size is fine! Tiny is adorable, but we do have hawks. Planning an enclosed run or Chunnel for sure. Everything keeps coming back to the Bielefelder as our best bet and I know we’ve got some locally as well
Possibly, though not all bantams require heat. My Cochins, for example, have no issues with the cold. It's just these eensy-weensy Old English that I see struggle with it here. Just be sure to read up on safe practices with heating coops if you do go that route! I bring my Old English inside to a room set up for them when it gets down to the low teens here, but I understand that's not feasible for many to do.
Hawks are a big issue with Old English, so an enclosed pen is probably wise. I've lost several of mine to hawks over the past year and I plan to put up a covered pen for the rest of them this year.
But, again, you certainly couldn't go wrong with Bielefelders, too! They're beautiful, BIG, gentle giants who would make a great addition to any flock.
