I have personally used cat food in a can and placed it in the enclosed end. If you are using meat birds it wouldn't be so bad to loose one of them instead of a good layer.

Not worried about the layers too much. They always get shut in their Fort Knox coops at night. The meat birds are just out in their tractor, open and fairly unprotected. However, no sign of the fox today or last night. Lined the edges with wire so he wouldn't want to dig around it and then some wood where I didn't have more wire. I think this fox is fairly domesticated. Our little part of county is right in the middle of a fair sized city.

I would find a way to shoot it...
Better it than your birds. Take up bow and arrow or something lol

My neighbors flock went from 30+ down to 3 in a matter of two weeks due to red fox.

I'm looking for ways to do away with them if I see them near my birds and I'm an animal lover through and through. I feel bad about the idea but I worked too hard to have those birds.
