I have a hatched in April cockerel that hit 3 strikes yesterday. He needs slow wet cooking so we can eat the meat. How do I crock pot a chicken?

Put him in the crock pot; add your liquid, herbs and veggies; set it on low for 8 hours; enjoy. I've found that roosters over 5 months of age tend to have a meatier flavor, similar to beef. Rosemary and red wines pair really well with the flavor, producing a meat that is more like pot roast than chicken.

I would dispatch pluck and gut him before putting in the crockpot.....could get a bit frantic otherwise......

He will also be quartered. He is a big boy and I've never gutted before. O read a recommendation that gutting was easier by cutting the bird in half. Especially it you didn't want to cook them whole anyway. So pull intestines and then cut in half to get the vial organs out. Wish me luck with that part. I've got the killing and plucking down. Well DH has the killing and I have the plucking. This will be our first male kill though so I could get interesting, I know I have to catch him because he still respects DH enough to run from him.

Well harvest is over. Father-in-law came over to help me and teach me how to gut. He skinned him rather than letting me pluck. Don't have time to cook him today and my mother won't let me cook them tomorrow cuz she's going to be home for dinner. So Wednesday...
He was huge though. Fully dressed to put in the fridge he weighed 3 lb 9.8 oz! Only 8-9 months old! I don't know what that means feathers and all. He was just a barnyard mutt. Daddy was a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Mama ?

You need to let the meat rest for 3 days before you cook it. Otherwise, it will be as tough as an old rubber tire.
Ok then Thursday. That will be just shy of 3 full days when I start cooking. I'll start cooking on the morning and he didn't die until 1:15ish. Will that work?
