crooked neck

I'm new to the chicken world. We got 4 chicks about 6 weeks ago. They were 4 weeks old at the time. They're growing fast! One of them is concerning me now. For the last few days she's had her left eye closed, and she tilts her head a lot to that side. She won't straighten up her neck and head. This of course makes eating and drinking difficult. She also seems to get trampled and picked on more by the others now. One of our theories is that maybe she got pecked by one of the others in that eye, or maybe she's got some sort of infection going on. She also could have been knocked in the head by our two-year old. I don't know what to do with her. I don't really want to spend a lot of money taking her to the vet. Anybody have any ideas?

from Ohio. So sorry to hear about your chick. It sounds like it did get pecked in the eye. I would put a divider in the brooder to keep the others from getting to it but not so it can't see the others. It might get better with some time. It would have been better if this was posted under the emergency section. You would have had better response to your problem than in the new member introductions. I hope it works out OK.

Yes, I agree with the above post. Separate her then post this on medical/emergency topic. You'll get folks that have background in problems such as this. Good luck. I hope she improves quickly. And by the way, welcome!
