Howdy folks,

Probably a silly question, but... would a Silkie roo try to breed with a standard hen? I have a Wellsummer hen, and I'll be adding my six new pullets in several weeks. I'm going to be building a larger coop for them all. The ducks will get the old coop. If I don't have to keep the roo separate, then that would be preferable. But, I don't want them to inter-breed. So, I'll separate them if I have to.

Thanks all,

Todd

Yep. We have a Silkie and he is very successful with the ladies. Any roo will try and I know that almost all will get it right sometime.

Yep. A cock is a cock is a cock. Don't let his frilly plumage fool you. Silkie males are like any other; indiscriminate breeders and ever ready to mount anything even remotely resembling a hen.

Even a football isn't safe. Bowling ball bags? Fahgeddaboudit!

He wont care, as long as he can and she is even the least bit willing.

He's a genuine force of nature. Stand in awe before him.
