I am fairly new at raising chickens; I started last April. We started off with 2 white Leghorns, 2 Black Australorps, 1 Silver-laced Wyandotte, and 1 Plymouth Rock. Then we added 2 Black Copper Marans, 2 Americaunas (easter eggers), and 1 link. One of the Americaunas turned out to be a rooster, so now we are considering hatching some eggs. I know nothing about breeding, but I am not against having mixed breeds. Is there any reason why I should not hatch eggs from my sundry mix of hens and my Americauna rooster?
Also, what should I expect from the mixing of my rooster specifically with my Black Coppers? They lay a chocolate brown egg, and Americaunas lay a blue-green egg. Will the baby chick lay one color or the other? or a strange mix?
