Crow or hawk?

It came at my chicks the other morning while I was out there with them letting them roam. It came from the back feild making a load screeching sound. Sounded sorta like a hurt rabbit screaming and running towards me which I thought it was till I saw the wings and the bird darting down towards the chicks. It didn't get them I grabbed a close by rake and started swinging it and jumping up and down and screaming the chciks ran under a bush.
It was not high in the sky low by very low but in the panic I did not get a good look.

Hawk or even a golden eagle. There are so many species of hawk it'a crazy! We have at least 4-5 species in my backyard!

Good luck with your flock. Hawks will attack with you right there. My girls watch the sky pretty well and we have several trees where the branches go to the ground. Basically hawk proof, unless the hawk walks on the ground.
