Hello! I have a question. So I heard my hen crowing and she laid eggs. I sent the video to a few chicken friends and they have all said that is a rooster crowing. My question is can a hen crow?

Yes! She definitely can. I had a hen crowing before, and there are plenty of users here who have had a crowing hen before. I’m not too sure why, although I’ve had it explained to me before! I’ll see if I can find an old thread of mine, and direct you there!

I have had three hens that have crowed. One was my top hen when we didn't have a rooster and It seemed to be a hormone imbalance thing because she did it after weaning chicks and stopped once she started laying eggs again. The second was a pullet who laid one egg and then stopped, crowed every day right next to my rooster, and eventually stopped when she started laying again. The third was very recently, a pullet who crows in the morning when the rooster is still in my garage where he sleeps to minimise noise overnight. If I don't reunite them early enough she crows, seemingly because she misses him. :idunno
So I think crowing pullets and hens is a lot more common than some people think!
