So my first hatch 4/22 of quail have reached crowing age. I’m wondering, do they all sort of reach crowing age at once? Or is it sort of more specific to the bird? I sat and watched them a bunch today and there was only one crowing, and I’ve been hearing his crow for a couple days now. He’s also the one I saw chasing the other quail on Sunday and they were frantically trying to get away from him. SO, I’m wondering if he’s just the first to realize he can crow and that he’s a male or if he’s just the only male. Tonight I found him all alone on the bottom level of the coop all fluffed up in the corner (right after I scared away the skunk) and the other 5 were upstairs laying together in a pile. I think I have at least one more male cuz the falb fees seem to be two hens and a roo, but so far it’s shown no other signs of being a roo other than a mostly white chest (no speckles). Anywho, just curious if he’s an early bloomer or the lone male! 😁 if he is, then I got super lucky to hatch 7 and get 6 hens...just seems unlikely 😆

Yeah I should have waited two more days hahaha, I was sitting and watching them today and two more crowed at me :-D Looks like I’m gonna be rehoming some quail! Only have 3 left, 2 I know are hens...and I’m keeping my double silver male. So it’s a good thing I got some hatching eggs from you @Nabiki hehehe so much room for more babies! 😁

I do hate giving them up though, they’re so pretty 😍

It's hard to get rid of the extra boys. I got rid of 21 this morning. I am looking forward to quieter nights and mornings, though.
Getting rid of the boys is the only thing that keeps me from my hatching addiction. I'm planning to start a new batch for my friends' kids who are visiting, but we really know the hatching is for me.

Yes, I'm finding this whole quail business quite addictive...hatching cute little babies is fun!! :)
I can’t stop! I have 2 brooders of different ages in the house, 2 different ages in 2 grow outs outside, eggs hatching this Thursday, and I just set 99 eggs 2 days ago. Not to mention my broody who has 8-9 under her.

I’m about to post my snowie project adults on craigslist to make room for their next gen.
