Crowing

When should I expect a cockerel to start crowing?

Many of them start between about 6 weeks and 16 weeks.

But I have read of some that started at just a few days old (those are pretty rare), and some cockerels of slow-developing breeds wait 8+ months before they start (those are fairly rare too, but not as rare as the tiny chicks.)

It sometimes feels like the more impatient you are, the longer the cockerel will wait

Thanks. The later, the better in my case, as I am not allowed to have roosters in inside the city limits. I need time to either rehome him, or plump him up enough to eat.

They can be eaten at any size. So if he starts crowing before he is "big enough," you can still butcher him at that time.
