I saw this egg get stepped on by the hen on the 4th of July, same time when I found a chick rejected by it's mother (I'll link that thread) and candled it before tossing it out and saw the chick still moving in it and it didn't bleed or leak fluids so I decided to place it in the same brooder box with the chick to give it a chance since it looked like it was almost ready to hatch. It has been 4 days with no change in the egg so I assumed it died and went to candle it again before tossing it and to my surprise the egg started chirping when I picked it up and I can see it breathing inside so I put it back in the brooder with the other chick. I know it's an unconventional incubator since I don't have one available but I know the heat lamp is keeping it at 95°. Now I am in no hurry to intervene, especially when I don't know how long it's been pipped internally but with the cracks in the shell I know shrink wrap may be a problem so what signs should I look for that would indicate the chick is in distress and needs intervention? My bigger concern right now is that the chick might get out too quickly with the broken shell. Most of the cracks are in the round end of the egg where the chick would pip from so I can't really tell if it did pip the shell and it just blends in with the cracks. I'll attach some pictures of the egg, and I'm not sure what's on the egg, that happened under the hen.
