I agree! That long is super unnecessary. I wonder if the articles mean they continue to mature for a year, because some breeds do take a year or two to reach full size?

Hmmm, maybe. I know from my reading that they dont lay until 9-10 months. Not too happy about that but it is what it is.

That's even a long time to expect eggs! Most breeds lay around 6 months... maybe 7.

So this says 8-10 months. I guess they arent great layers either. Not a breed I would have chosen but they're supposed to be pretty

And that's even if these are really even barnevelders. The lighter one look like the pictures I've seen online but the darker one does not.

The darker one could be a maran or barred rock. Based on the spot on the head and the other colouring I'm seeing.
