I ordered 15 chicks and received 16 on May 19th. I ordered (all hens) 11 red broilers, 1 EE, 1 Blue Andalusian, 1 Red Star, and 1 Cuckoo Maran. None of the chicks had any type of tag on them. Two chicks looked identical so I thought I had two Cuckoo Maran chicks. I was giving away the free chick and two broilers to a friend. Using the general listing for Cuckoo Maran markings I gave away the lighter chick with the abnormal marking on the head. The one I had was a darker black, somewhat smaller, and the dot on the head was really defined and symmetrical.
Now three weeks later I'm wondering if I actually have a Cuckoo Maran and if it is a rooster. My other egg layers have tail feathers and are growing at the same rate. This one has little short tail feathers, growing slower, and the comb is much more defined. It is not red yet. The down has also changed to a silver color and is no longer black like it was.
Also wondering if the two little bald spots are a concern on the wings

Yes, I think it is a Silver Cuckoo Marans. I have one six week old (supposed to be) pullet right now. We're playing the gender game here as well.

I will say that our SCM also developed a very defined comb early-on - JUST like yours has - but hers has not really grown bigger from 3 weeks to now, and it is still YELLOW. We have some other definite pullets, and their combs aren't as yellow as this one.

The only difference that I can see between my SCM and yours is that mine has less white in the barring. She's still barred, but it's duller looking. I have seen it written that males have the brighter, more defined coloring, but I am certainly no expert on that!

I wouldn't be surprised if that is a Marans cockerel. I'm going by the white legs for the Marans part, and the lighter barring and lighter leg color for the gender.
