Cuckoo Maran rooster

My Cuckoo Maran rooster is getting gold color tones on his back, now. Is that normal? He is six months old and a big sweetheart most of the time. I have photos of him, but I don't think the gold tones are showing in the photos.

maybe pigmentation from the feed. do you feed them corn or marigolds are anything of that type. sorry for being eight years late
