Hi! My name is Kelly, I live in Fayetteville, AR. We have an interesting arrangement with our cul-de-sac neighbor. He’s the financier for the chickens and their coop is in their backyard but we provide most of the care for “the babies.” He calls me the “Chicken Mama” . I do get pet crazy so I have attached to them and vice-versa.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We got 6 chicks the week before Easter. Three died off for various reasons in the first week. We added 3 more to replace them the 2nd week and kept those 6 alive for about 3 months until Violet flew over their fence and got to another neighbor’s dogs .

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5: Jasmine “Mini”
Pumpkin
Poppy “Peep”
Magnolia “Maggie”
Buttercup

(3) What breeds do you have?
I’m not entirely sure since my neighbor bought them and I don’t think he asked ‍♀️. My best guess would be 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Buff Orpingtons and some kind of white with a mohawk.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love seeing their personalities. I’m also looking forward to eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Remodeling out house. We also have a veggie/fruit garden and a flower garden.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’m a stay-at-home mom to 3 adopted kids, ages 10, 9 (girls), and 7 (boy). We have 2 dogs, a yellow lab and a Westie. My husband runs our lawn care business. I stay busy attempting to keep everything operating.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found from Google, I’m looking forward to pouring through the wealth of knowledge here!
