Chirping
I need some advice please. I live in city limits where I cannot have roosters. We have a few older pullets and a cockerel that just started crowing. We're going to cull him this week because he's a mixed breed and will probably have a hard time trying to rehome. No issues there.
The problem I'm having is this... We also have 6 chicks in a brooder. There are two obvious cockerels in the bunch and they are downright mean to the others. It's gotten to the point where they have my lavender orpingtons cornered and they won't let them near the food, water or roosts. Poor things are terrified. Lots of pecks to the heads and if they try to get near the food the cockerels will jump on their backs and peck them until they retreat again. They're 4 weeks old. Should I just cull them? We can't have roosters anyway so I don't really see the point in raising them. They are mixed breeds too so it's not like I'd be losing a rare breed of bird. I really just want the lavender orpington chicks to thrive. Help please!
