I have a newly hatched call duck that can not stand. The toes are slightly turned inward. Would using the splints help, or even maybe cure the feet. Will they ever be cured, if I use the splints. He will stand really high in his stance and falls over. He always ends up on his back and cannot get rightside up by himself. I feel terrible beacuse I can't always sit there and keep flipping him rightside up. Please any suggestions would help a ton!

I had a little Pekin duckling hatch last year with that problem. it was quickly and easily fixed with some little sticky foam pads. I bought the foam pads which are produced for human feet- for calouses and corns. Cut them into a smaller and shaped size to fit the under side of the ducklings feet. They are sticky enough to stay on for a few days- and then come off fairly easily. Ducky only needed help for a few hours after getting its shoes to learn to walk with them on. The foam was very light and by day two of wearing the shoes - the little ones was running around the pen like the other ducks.

The duckling ended up having one toe sightly bent- but otherwise was completely normal after wearing shoes for a week. I changed them once on day 4.

I have had 100% success with Bandaid shoes. Cut off the 2 sticky ends of the bandaid. Place one upside down on a flat surface. Place duck foot flat out on it. Put other end of bandaid sticky end down on top of the foot. Voila! Foot sandwich. Leave on for at least 24 hours and you will be amazed at the result. The bandaid ends maintain flexibility of the foot while preventing the curl.
