This batch of hatchlings (coturnix quail) have some curling of the toes. What is this indicative of? I tried the dry hatch method that is outlined here this time. Thank you for the help!

Is it the humidity or is it genetic? I don't want to make the same mistake as I am getting ready to set some Marans eggs.

Some think it is genetic. I personally do not. I have had some curled toes in the past and fixed them with chicky boots! Whatever the reason was, it is not happening anymore. So if it was genetic, I would still be getting chicks with the same problem! I did switch to a cabinet incubator, I wonder if that made a difference!?!Hmmmmm, pondering now!

I checked this site, from the sticky, but didn't see curled toes:

I would incubate more eggs

and see if it happens again! Like Paty said, it is an easy fix, so I'm hoping that it is an incubation issue, and won't happen again!

(got any pics of those cuties??)

So is the temp too warm or too cool?

They hatched right on time. The ones that hatched at the latter end of the hatch were the ones with the problem. The toes are so curled that I don't think the boots would help. We got one out last night that was the most curled & the toes couldn't be straightened. DH put it down. I saw the booties and am intrigued... I just think it might be hard with these tiny quail.

No pics yet... I will try to do that today:)
