My most recent chick still has curly feet several hours after the hatch. I know how to make a boot, but wondered how long it normally takes the feet to straighten out, thus how long I should let it go before I decide the feet need straightening. I don't want to traumatize the chick, or me, by applying boots prematurely.

THe sooner you get the boot on the faster it will heal.

I caught curly toes on day one for one of my chicks and her feet were straight after less than two days in a boot.

Better safe than sorry - put a boot on ASAP.

I think I read on here once that you wait a day and if they are still curled you can use bandaids to straighten and then trim them.

Do the search feature... I think it was Miss Prissy that showed how to do it.
