Curly's been attacked by a lab puppy. Hubby found the dog at the door with Curly in his mouth. I don't know the extent of injuries but she is in ICU (in the house) with some chicken feed, water with ACV, and some vanilla yogurt. She's a baby, we've had him 5 or 6 weeks. She seems alive but floppy.

We're going to set up a heat source for Curly right now. What do we need to look out for? How can we help Curly recover.

edited to change Larry to Curly. Took a closer look at the chick and found out that it was one and not the other

Larry probably has puncture wounds you can't find so he'll need antibiotics. He'll also need a good looking over for broken bones that might need to be splinted. Check his wings and legs. Otherwise I tend to leave them alone to heal on their own.

Good luck, I hope that Larry does well.

So, a few hours later.

Curly is up and walking around. I've cuddled her (which she seemed to like), dripped a bit of water onto her beak. She drank a bit more from my hand. She's peeping but sounds like she's got a frog in her throat. She's wanted to eat, scratching around for food. I put a small bit in the ICU location for her. Her feathers and wings seem OK, but a bit dirty.

I think; I hope she'll be OK. I really thought we'd lost her. I was nearly in tears over it.

Curly made it through the night. She's peeping a bit but sounds really hoarse. She's eaten, drank, and pooped; so we can tell things are working on the inside. We're going to keep her in the house another day or so to keep an eye on her but I think she'll be OK. I was really worried about her yesterday.
