Cutting Down on the Feed Bill

I am finding that my chickens are going through a lot of food. Here is one idea for cheap protein. I use a Dust Buster to suck up flies. We own a dog kennel and I was looking for a safe way to get rid of flies because I can't use sprays. The flies aggregate around the windows. No more fly swatters for me in the house either - suck em up and feed them to the chickens - they are about 80% protein.
Anyone got any other ideas? The meal worm thread was a great idea.

Good idea about the flies. I have several compost bins at different stages. There are always worms in one of the bins. My hens love worms. I also plant cauliflowers and collard greens. The chickens love to eat leaves from those plants. Those plants are now two years old and still give a lot of leaves, with very little maintenance.
