daimond dove hatchlings

Very cute! What colour will they be?

My pair of normal coloured diamond doves had their first 2 chicks a few months ago. Both chicks were females and very tame - not like the parents. I made sure I handled them from when they were still in the next.

Sadly I one female died a few days ago. I don't know why - it was a shock. She was so healthy, plumb and showing no signs of being sick. I noticed she was sick as she stayed sitting on the cage floor when I went to feed them. She did not seem able to stand up. Then about 10 minutes later she died. So sad. I hope the parents will have some more chicks.

What do you feed your diamond doves? Mine eat many kinds of seeds and get grit and cuttle bone, millet. But they won't eat any vegetables or fresh food and I am worried they are not eating a healthy diet - what do yours like to eat?

hi

one will be a normal grey blue colour and the other one brown red colour, the only feed i gave them is millet mix with chick chick 1(poultry grain for young chicks) and sometime s add some egg food in there meal that s all. I have great breeding results. Sorry to hear about your female dove it can be injury in the cage maybe something else chase her, but your food just seems fine don t worry. It is wise when the young can help themselfs to remove them to a other avairy because the male are a bit agressive

Thank you for getting back to me.

The remaining 3 are all doing great. I think the one that died got some kind of internal disease. Even though she was plump, when I picked her up she had a wet 'bottom' and was passing very bad smelling clear thick poops. It was very strange. I was afraid the other birds would get ill, but its been over 2 weeks now and everyone else if fine.

The Dad dove is very gentle to his mate and the adult chick. Both chicks were females. Perhaps if one was a male the dad might get nasty with him. I will keep a close eye on them.

What other birds do you have? I also have pair each of King Pigeons, Ring Neck Doves, Zebra Doves, Button Quail and some finches. (also my chickens).
