Dallas tells garden center they can't sell chickens anymore

I interviewed Dan Probst, the man that was selling his chickens at the garden center on my radio show this past Wednesday. The city is playing dirty and using dirty tatics to make the garden center stop allowing Dan to sell his chickens there. You can listen to the interview here...

Update: Latest -- but not last -- word on chicken flap

General manager of North Haven Gardens Leslie Halleck was interviewed by Garden Center Magazine, in which she talked about keeping chickens as part of a sustainable gardener's lifestyle.

I feel that is sad, I live in a very nice neighborhood in Dallas. I have three hens, which bother no one. I believe no one even knows I have them except my neighbors I have invited over to meet the girls. Barking dogs are much more annoying than some hens. I do not have a Rooster, because they can be a quite vocal. I hope North Haven wins their case and continues to sales chicks and their supply.

The dog is wagging the dog here folks. We are all at the mercy of petty tyrants who "allow" us to exist - or not -- at their whim. I just don't like someone being told they can't sell a legal product (chicks) because somebody complained.

Just to update this thread, Bageniece Farms has been having pullet & hen sales at North Haven Gardens. I have not seen anything posted regarding any selling of day old chicks at this location.

Here's hoping we can keep Bageniece Farms selling and educating at NHG.
