See, it can be said nicely. Thank you Chickies. I mean, I understand the concept he was trying to get across- and I would never purposely advise someone to do something that I knew would hurt their birds... or even thought it MIGHT hurt their birds. That would be silly and rude and horrible. If your birds shoot straight up in the air at night when you visit, then of course don't visit then. Mine don't, and I didn't know others did or I wouldn't have said anything

I think alot depends on the birds, if you know their behaviers....I have some that will , others never do. Think same thing on peahens taking peachicks, some will others will not....but myself i think it better to raise them ,rather than the mother. lot of danger for those little peachicks, so peahens will lose more than the way i raise them. No not that I'm a better mother

but can drown in water puddles , get trapped behind boards, stuck in wire, not able to get to mom, and don't forget predators and disease.

That one thing about giving advise, not all birds act the same, dealing with very tame birds different , those that are not.

So D&M made a very good point, and don't think he ment to be rude, but just throwed out facts, you should know.

Yeah, I will keep in mind that mine are unusually tame compared to most. And I probably shouldn't have gotten ruffled feathers, I'm sure he was just concerned as well.

Minx,
I had a chick pip (or peep, whatever it is called LOL) last week in my incubator and when the egg went from a pip to the cracking a few hours later, yellow liquid (yolk) came out of the egg and ran into the bottom tray. The egg did hatch and the chick unfortunately did look like yours and died about 10 minutes later. Poor thing was covered in yolk and had the stuff hanging from his bottom too. Most of mine start to pip and the next day they hatch and this one did it all within a 2-4 hour time frame. I looked at it as the chick just came out of the egg too soon. The chick was a purple BS who's father is charcoal. So far the rest are hatching OK. Your poor chick was most likely carried cause it stuck to the belly of it's mother.
